Welcome Aboard

The Golden Hinde is a museum of two histories, 400 years apart: the circumnavigation of Francis Drake in 1577-80, and the voyages of the reconstruction in the 20th Century.

Since The Golden Hinde was invited into her current Bankside home in St. Mary Overie Dock in 1996, she has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors onboard to experience a living piece of history where the past comes to life. The ship also serves as a unique venue for live music, weddings, an escape room, and a diverse range of other events throughout the year.

Accessibility

The Golden Hinde is a full-scale wooden reconstruction of a 16th Century galleon and retains many original Tudor ship features.

Access to the ship is via five steps from street level, and there is no step-free access. On board, there are four levels connected by steep stairs or vertical ladders. Expect narrow passages, low ceilings, and uneven wooden floors.

There are no public toilets or changing facilities for general visitors.

While not fully accessible to all, our team is happy to help wherever possible. If you have specific access requirements, contact us in advance so we can support your visit.
